Part of the 24 hour iodine loading test kit. Bromines compete with iodine in the body and are therefore toxic to humans. It is essential to assess bromide toxicity when testing for iodine to see if bromide is blocking iodine and giving a false positive iodine result. You may see over 90-100% excretion of iodine after the iodine loading dose which means bromide is blocking its absorption and the person is unable to absorb iodine effectively. This requires a bromide detox protocol.

Bromide is a common endocrine disruptor. What makes it so harmful is that it competes for the same receptors that are used to capture iodine affecting all tissues and in particular the thyroid and hormonal tissues.

Bromide is also toxic and builds up in your central nervous system. It can trigger a number of psychological symptoms such as acute paranoia and other psychotic symptoms as well as skin rashes, severe acne, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, fatigue, metallic taste and cardiac arrhythmias.

It is found in pesticides, plastics, bakery goods and some flours, soft drinks (including Mountain Dew) in the form of brominated vegetable oils (BVOs), some medications (Inhalers, Nasal Sprays, and anaesthesia agents), fire retardants used in fabrics, carpets, upholstery, and mattresses and bromine-based hot tub and swimming pool treatments.
